Description
Thyme Limestone is a natural limestone quarried in Southern Albania, characterized by a warm creamy beige to pale ivory and sand-coloured background. It has a fine-grained, dense, and highly granular structure with a consistent natural appearance.
Texture & Pattern
Its defining feature is a uniform speckled pattern formed by countless tiny light-beige and tan grains, with occasional pale shell-like fossil fragments. Free from dramatic veining and linear wood-grain patterns, Thyme Limestone offers a consistent, sandy, organic texture.
Indicative Technical Properties
- Water Absorption: Approx. 0.5–2.0 wt.%
- Density: Approx. 2,600–2,650 kg/m³
- Flexural Strength: Approx. 9–12 MPa
- Compressive Strength: Approx. 90–120 MPa
- Hardness: Approx. Mohs 3–4
Indicative Mineral Composition (% by Weight)
- Calcite: 80–95%
- Dolomite: 2–10%
- Quartz: 1–5%
- Clay, fossils and other accessory minerals: 1–5%
Indicative Chemical Composition (% by Weight)
- CaCO₃: 80–95%
- MgCO₃: 2–10%
- SiO₂: 1–5%
- Al₂O₃ + Fe₂O₃: 0.5–3%
- Other compounds: Trace amounts
Applications
Suitable for interior and exterior wall cladding, flooring, paving, façades, stairs, fireplaces, bathrooms, landscaping, patios, terraces, pool surrounds, and residential and commercial architectural projects.
Maintenance
Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner and avoid vinegar, acidic products, and abrasive chemicals. Sealing is recommended, particularly for floors, kitchens, bathrooms, and exterior applications. Wipe spills promptly and inspect the sealer periodically to maintain the stone's natural appearance and stain resistance.
* Technical and compositional values are indicative and may vary depending on the quarry block and production batch; quarry-specific laboratory test reports should be used for project specifications.
